Microsoft India and Telecom Sector Skill Council ink MOU to drive skill development for the Indian Telecom Sector through Project Sangam

New Delhi, 22 May 2017: Microsoft India today signed an Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Telecom Sector Skill Council (TSSC) to jointly explore how Project Sangam will help enhance skills of executives in the telecom sector and create a more viable skilling ecosystem. Announced by Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella earlier this year at Future Decoded, Project Sangam is a cloud hosted platform that leverages Azure services, as well as the power of LinkedIn, to provide an integrated mobile-first platform for skilling, and employment. The pilot is intended to skill candidates in the areas of ICTEC (Information, Communication Technology, Electronics & Cyber as related to Telecom) and connect them with jobs.

With this pilot, Microsoft India will provide TSCC a platform to onboard identified skilling partners, content creators, training candidates and potential employers. Using the platform, the sector council can create courses compliant with the National Skills Qualification Framework (NSQF). These courses can then be further extended by their partners and trainers with their own training material. The platform will also provide Advanced Analytics and Insights for monitoring and iteratively improving program success.

Lt. Gen SP Kochhar (Retd), Chief Executive Officer Telecom Sector Skill Council, added, “We are excited to partner with Microsoft in our efforts to train and skill India’s youth boost growth and productivity in the telecom sector. We believe Microsoft’s programs, tools and resources will empower telecom sector professionals with new-age competencies and narrow the existing gap between demand and supply of skills.”

Anil Bhansali, Managing Director, Microsoft India (R&D) Private Limited and Corporate Vice President, Cloud & Enterprise, said, “We believe technology can empower every Indian, and this MOU will take us further in that journey. Project Sangam is an important step in in helping play a role in bringing the power of Microsoft technology to accelerate the ‘Skill India’ mission.”

Sanjeev Gupta, Country Manager, Public Sector, Microsoft India, said, “Microsoft is committed to empowering Indian youth by helping build skills, providing access to technology, and giving them tools to support their learning. We are pleased to bring the power of Microsoft cloud technologies and data analytics to the Telecom Sector Skill Council and look forward to supporting them in their mission to develop world class skilled manpower for the Telecom industry in India.”
